Castaway love

To her who once chose me, and thawed my heart,
to her so beautiful and sweet and bold,
I should have given all, withheld no part,
adored her second only in his fold,
to God. Yet love we foolishly neglect
and place among our treasures, not above;
Thus treat our greatest gift with disrespect.
By reason blinded and the curse thereof,
I tamed my passion, let hers go astray.
The ocean that divides us since is fraught,
with languid currents of life’s daily fray
that smash my hopes on reefs of pain I wrought.
If I regain her heart, a bond so true
I’ll forge, that death herself will not undo.
